how-to-get-an-internship-at-ongcMost likely, you may have stumbled upon this post while searching for an internship at ONGC. An internship in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), India’s largest oil and gas production company, is highly sought after by students from various streams all across the country.

Who are eligible to apply?
ONGC offers internships for a duration of 1-2 months to undergraduate and post-graduate students of different branches of engineering like mechanical, chemical, petroleum, electrical, computer science, etc. (3rd year B.Tech students are given preference) and to those pursuing Law and Mass communication. It also provides management internships to students pursuing their MBA in finance, marketing, and HR. Internships are also provided for MCA students for a duration of 6 months.

How to apply?
Online Application form: Download the document containing all the required information here. Fill the form, collect the training letter from your college and send it to ONGC academy, Dehradun along with the copies of mark sheet of 12th and of the last semester. You can also send the application to your nearest regional training institutes and administrative offices.

Through referral: If you know someone who works at ONGC, you get an edge over others through his/her recommendation.

When to apply?
There is a specific schedule for applying to ONGC summer and winter training. Make sure that your application reaches the ONGC academy before the last date.

What after applying?
Applications are evaluated and processed based on the availability of mentors. Preference is given to immediate wards of ONGC employees.

What to expect once the internship starts?
No stipend is provided for these internships. Every intern is assigned a specific mentor who guides the student throughout the internship period. The first couple of days are not hectic; interns have to fill the forms to get their provisional passes. It is followed by the procedure to obtain Identity cards for hindrance-free entry on the premises. An intern has to finalize the topic of the project after discussing with the mentor which is followed by literature review and research. At the end, every intern has to submit a project report followed by an oral presentation or viva.

A couple of pro-tips:
Work culture: The work environment is chill and the timings are very flexible, generally from 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM. The workload is not stringent but you must complete the work before the deadline. It’s very rare that the internship period is extended. The cafeteria provides delicious food at subsidized rates and that’s where most of the plans are made.

Mentorship: Mentors are very supportive and provide ample time to solve your doubts and provide you enough technical and behavioral know-hows to prepare you for your transition from a student to a working professional.
